The Maximize Project
The HOPELab collaborates with the OHIO Center for Intervention Research in Schools (CIRS)
The goal this project is to develop and evaluate innovative resources that help teachers use positive behavioral supports to meet the diverse needs of their students. Through the Maximize Project, the OHIO CIRS team aims to develop two main resources:
An interactive website for teacher professional development. We have previously developed an interactive system for a targeted intervention, the Daily Report Card Online(opens in a new window). The CIRS team plans to expand this system to cover multiple universal and targeted behavioral supports, professional development on culturally sensitive and equitable practices, teacher self-assessments and planning guides, student progress monitoring tools, and data-driven guides for intervention modification.
Procedures that build capacity in schools for coaching and supporting teachers’ use of effective and equitable positive behavioral supports. The CIRS team previously developed procedures for identifying and training individuals within a school system that provide this type of coaching support, and we plan to further develop and refine the trainings with feedback from teachers and administrative collaborators.
The Maximize Project
Classroom disruptions are a common source of teacher stress and burnout. One evidence-based tool that can be used as a behavior management resource to decrease these disruptions is the Daily Report Card (DRC). The DRC is a behavioral support approach that has been shown to be effective in supporting students with behavioral and attention difficulties. This research project is working on developing and evaluating an innovative coaching model that uses technology and school-based key opinion leaders to support DRC implementation in elementary classrooms.
